Magic Bar Cookies

Yummy, yummy! My first batch of holiday cookies are done. Thought I would start out super easy on these. I remember making these for the first time. I was a young teenager and it was close to the holidays and I wanted something sweet. I remember getting out my mom’s Betty Crocker cookbook and finding this recipe, or a version of, and I loved how easy it was because I didn’t have to get out flour and such and make a dough. We happened to have all the ingredients on hand although I am not sure why because we didn’t bake a lot at our house growing up. Nevertheless, we had the ingredients so I followed the recipe and made a batch. DIVINE! This is still my favorite “holiday” cookie to this day. You can make them any time of the year of course, but I just associate them with the holiday.

Magic Bar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cup coconut flakes

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Melt butter. Combine melted butter and graham cracker crumbs in small bowl. Once combined well gentle press mixture into a 13x9 baking dish to form the crust.

Pour the can of sweetened condensed milk over the top and spread. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and coconut flakes over the top.

Bake about 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven and loosen sides from pan. Then let sit for at least 10-15 minutes to help set up. Cut into squares.
