easy apple crisp

Fall means apples and that means apple crisp. My family and I enjoyed the blackberry crumble so much that I thought I would try something similar tonight. We had a few apples in the fruit bowl so that’s what I grabbed. This Apple Crisp is just as simple as the last one so even if you think you can’t cook or bake give it a try. The topping is crispier on this (if you eat it right away) than the topping from the blackberry crumble. The graham cracker crumbs give it a different taste than most which have oats.

Do you make apple crisp? What do you do differently, if anything?

  • 3 Medium apples (I used Gala because it is what I had on hand)
  • 1 Medium juice of a lemon
  • 1/2 stick butter, divided
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • vanilla ice cream

Preheat oven to 350 F. Peel and slice apples thinly. Toss gently with the lemon juice. Take about 1 tsp of the butter and use it to grease the bottom and sides of an 8×8 baking dish. Layer in the sliced apples into the baking dish.

In a bowl combine brown sugar, white sugar, flour, graham cracker crumbs, and cinnamon. Stir to mix. Cut the butter into small pieces and cut into sugar/flour mixture. You could use a pastry cutter, a fork, or your fingers (this is my method). Just keep going until the butter is in small pieces coated with the dry mix. Then sprinkle it all on top of the apples. Bake for about 50 minutes. Serve hot with vanilla ice cream.
