Warsaw Mule Cocktail Recipe | Robyns.World

The Kentucky Derby is tomorrow, May 3, so lots of folks are looking at horses. But hey, what about those mules? The folks at Sobieski Vodka want to give him a little love too. He may not win, or heck even be entered, into the Kentucky Derby, but he will still be a crowd favorite. Don’t worry, if you are a fan of the Mint Julep tradition that is okay too!

Warsaw Mule

  • 2 ounces Sobieski Vodka
  • 3 ounces Ginger Beer
  • Juice of half a lime
  • Lime Wheel
  • Ice
  • Copper Mug (preferred, but optional)

Directions: Add the vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice to a copper mug filled with ice. Garnish with lime wheel.

I could not find a definitive history on why a Warsaw Mule (or Moscow Mule) was served in a copper mug. The most common answer was that it was tradition from when the drink was originally created. Some noted something about oxidation also. Regardless, if you have a copper mug then by all means use it for this cocktail. If not, a simple glass will do the trick just as well.

Is this a drink you would try? Do you plan on watching the Kentucky Derby this weekend?
