2014 Emmy Awards - my thoughts | RobynsOnlineWorld.com Last night I caught bits and pieces of the Emmy Awards show. It is the one award show I actually seem to like the show part because I recognize more of the people since they are TV. Watching the awards for movies and music I feel a little lost, but the TV people seem more like friends. These folks seem to know how to have fun and keep entertaining us even when they are there to support their own work and peers. I love all the banter and funny bits they had throughout the show.

The In Memoriam portion last night was fabulous with Sara Bareilles singing “Smile” as they showed a montage of actors we have lost this past year. Then Billy Crystal came out and gave a wonderful tribute to Robin Williams. I adored the comparison he made of Robin and a star still shining on us from the sky even after it is gone. The video below is worth watching if you missed it last night.

A “who knew” moment, at least for me and Hubby, last night was realizing that Bryan Cranston aka Walter White of Breaking Bad also played Tim Whatley on Seinfeld years ago! I have watched both many times and never made that connection. To me that is a sign of great acting actually – the actor is the character and not an actor playing a part. He was great as the smug dentist on Seinfeld and just as amazing as a “regular guy” who just happened to be a meth king on Breaking Bad. I was also thrilled that Breaking Bad won last night.

We can’t forget the fashions at the awards either.

Sarah Silverman at the 2014 Emmy Awards

Sarah Silverman was a winner last night and she looked gorgeous I thought. I am so used to seeing her in a tomboy kind of look that this was a nice change and she wore the look very well.

Melissa Rauch of The Big Bang Theory at the 2014 Emmy Awards

One of my favorites last night was Melissa Rauch (Bernadette from The Big Bang Theory). She is a tiny person but this dress was beautiful and suited her perfectly I think.

Kater Mulgrew of Orange is the New Black at the 2014 Emmy Awards

Older (not old) women sometimes have a hard time at these award shows because they try to dress too young I think. Last night Kate Mulgrew (Red of Orange is the New Black) did a great job with this dress that I think was very age appropriate and flattering.

Lena Dunham at the 2014 Emmy Awards

Umm, I am not sure who told Lena Dunham that this was a good look but that was not a nice thing to do. There is nothing I like about her look on the red carpet.

Julia Roberts at the 2014 Emmy Awards

Here is an example of someone dressing too young for their age. Julia Roberts should not be wearing this. It would be okay, well actually I’m not crazy about the dress itself even, on a young teen star, but it looked inappropriate for her age and for the event.

Michelle Dockery of Downtown Abbey at the 2014 Emmy Awards

This dress on Michelle Dockery looks like a formal flight attendant uniform from the 60s to me. Very odd color choices and blocking on this dress.

Taryn Manning of Orange is the New Black at the 2014 Emmy Awards

I don’t hate what Taryn Manning (Orange is the New Black) is wearing, but I definitely do not like the dress on her. She is not wearing the dress, it is wearing her. Just not a good look for her. It takes a certain type of person to pull off something like this.

Sarah Paulson of American Horror Story at the 2014 Emmy Awards

Sarah Paulson had a very unique dress at the Emmy Awards as well. When I first saw it I was like “whoa”, but the more I look at it the more I kind of like it. It is fluffy, but kind of cool too. She wore it very well.

Robin Wright at the 2014 Emmy Awards

Finally, my namesake, Robin Wright. (I’m Robyn with a Y though) This is another look that part of it I like, part of it not so much. I love the color and the front look, except for the length of the pants which I think are way too long, but the back I am not crazy about at all. It looks like she has her shirt pulled up – I know it’s just cut out like that – but it’s odd. Plus the pants are stretched across her butt weird and I don’t like the heavy crease on the back of the legs.

So those are my thoughts on the Emmy Awards last night. I would love to know what were your favorite or least favorite parts of the show, your hits and misses on the red carpet, or whatever else you would like to share.
