Connect With Your Online Friends - Send Some Love

This post is for all of you who have friends that you have met online via social media. You might be blogging buddies, chat all the time on Twitter or Facebook, it could be that you have made friends at social media conferences or blogger trips, how and when you met is not the issue. The point of this is to make sure you send some love to your friends.

I am so lucky to have made some wonderful friends through social media – I mean really wonderful people that I just adore so much. However, those of us in social media sometimes get a bit overwhelmed with all of the networks and sometimes it is hard to keep track of what is happening in everyone’s lives. They may post, but we may not always see it because of the way our accounts are set up because of our work. There is good and bad with our work.

So today I want you all to try and make it a point of sending a message to those wonderful people you know. Send them a private message on Facebook, post a hello on their wall, send them a tweet, send an email, text them, call them, do whatever works best for you all to make a connection. Not just today – but on a regular basis.

Most of the people that I am very close with I luckily see in person occasionally at conferences and trips but, just like everyone, I get a little off track once back home. I know how much it means to me when one of these wonderful friends reaches out to me – even if it is just a hello – because I know they are thinking of me and it reminds me that I am never alone.

The majority of people, myself included, can find it hard to reach out to our friends when we need help. Especially emotional support. We don’t want to “bother” our friends – but the thing is if your friends knew you needed some extra love and kindness and friendship they would be the first ones there to reach out. In our crazy social media lives we just don’t always catch things so it is up to you (and me) to tell people directly sometimes that we need help or that we are there to help them.

I know that all of you, really all of you, are thinking right now of at least one person that you know you need to reach out to and reconnect with. Do it now – stop reading this post even – I don’t mind you leaving my blog right this moment to go and do it. Your friends are far more important than my blog.
