The second week of October is Fire Prevention Week. I searched around to find an infographic for today that provided us all some reminders about this important information and found this two of them to share. Take the Fire Prevention Week Quiz first to see how prepared you really are, or are not, and then take the time to learn more.
First is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep” which explains why you need a working smoke alarm in every room people sleep in! I recently saw something on TV that compared a modern home with more modern furniture and such that was fully engulfed in like 4 minutes. They compared this to an old home with old furniture that took almost 30 minutes to fully engulf. The nature of what things are made of these days are much more flammable and we need every second we can get of warning to get out of the house!
The second is “Escape Planning” which is not as much an infographic, but it gives good information. Get the entire family involved in creating or revising your escape plan in case of a fire. Let the kids be the “fire marshal” in your home to get them more involved and be sure to practice the escape!
The National Fire Protection Association has tons of other great resources that are useful for all year round, not just during Fire Prevention Week. If you have young kids, be sure to check out Sparky the Fire Dog’s site also.
Did you learn something new from today’s infographics? Do you have any other tips or resources to share with the rest of us?
