Christmas Traditions on Historic Main Street in St. Charles, Missouri

I live in the suburbs of St. Louis in the lovely town of St. Charles. One of my favorite parts of this city is Historic Main Street. Each year for the holidays they have the amazing Christmas Traditions which takes you back in time to experience Christmas the way it was years and years ago. Today I went to capture some of the fun experiences to share with you. If you are able I highly suggest visiting St. Charles to enjoy it all.

The Christmas Traditions programs are ever Wednesday and Friday evening from 6:30-9:00pm, Saturday from 11:00am-9:00pm, and Sunday from noon-5:00pm from November 27-December 23. If you can, I suggest you try to visit once during the day and once in the evening during the holidays. Many of the festivities take place throughout all the open times, but there are some activities and events that are only at certain times on certain days. Please check the schedule to make sure you don’t miss your favorites.

Here are just a few of the festivities that I enjoy during Christmas Traditions and a few photos of my visit today.

Santa Parade

Each Saturday and Sunday at 1:30pm
100 South Main Street to the Jaycee Stage in Frontier Park
The parade brings together the characters, carolers and all of the international Santa’s each weekend. Plus Santa and Mrs. Claus in their horse-drawn carriage.

Christmas Trading Cards

During entire event
Scattered around Main Street
One of my favorite things has been that the international Santas and other characters pass out trading cards with their image and some history on each. There are 41 different trading cards available for 2015, see how many you can collect during your visit.

Katy Depot in Frontier Park
Visit Santa and let him know what you want for Christmas. Photos with Santa can be purchased as well.

Christmas Carolers

Meet the Reindeer

December 19 & 20, 3-5pm
200 South Main Street
Enjoy meeting real reindeer right in the city. The Reindeer Flight Instructor will introduce you to her reindeer friends and share lots of fun stories. There are plenty of opportunities to take photos of the reindeer as well.

Master of Revels

Roasted Chestnuts

During entire event
Between 700 and 800 blocks of South Main Street
We’ve all heard of chestnuts roasting on an open fire in holiday songs but how many of us have actually experienced them? Now you have the chance to purchase this specialty and try it for yourself as you meander down the festive street.

Christmas Traditions Photo Stops

During entire event
Scattered around Main Street
There are plenty of photo stops where you can step into one of the trading card sets to create your own special photo souvenir.

Main Street Christmas Traditions

While you are enjoying the sites and sounds of Christmas you also have plenty of opportunity to shop in the unique stores along Main Street. You can find unique gifts for everyone on your holiday shopping list. There are also a plethora of restaurants along Main Street that you can have lunch or dinner at during your visit. My family and I have dined at many of them and they all have some great food offerings.

Have you ever visited the St. Charles Christmas Traditions events? What is your favorite part? If you aren’t in the St. Louis area, do you have something like this near you?
