Tomorrow Hubby and I will be going to pick out our Christmas tree and decorating the house. It is actually a bit earlier than usual for us. My son’s birthday is in a few days and when he lived at home we always waiting until after his birthday to decorate for the holidays. He lives on his own now though and we celebrated his birthday with the family today so it’s okay for us to start a bit earlier this year.

Since I’m thinking of Christmas trees I thought today’s infographic should be about the same. One thing the infographic doesn’t mention is that the custom of hanging evergreen boughs in homes goes back far further actually. Pagans hung evergreen in homes as part of the celebration of the Winter Solstice and even further back was Roman Saturnalia. In the fourth century the church decided that Jesus Christ’s birthday should be celebrated and Pope Julius I decided on December 25. The common belief is that the church selected that date to help transition pagan winter celebrations with the church. Regardless, the Christmas tree is now a standard symbol of the holiday for many. The infographic gives a lot of interesting facts and tidbits about trees that I hope you will enjoy.

Leave a comment below letting me know if you use a real tree or a fake one and any special things your family does with your tree.
