Have I got a great holiday for you this week! July 24 is National Tequila Day! Now there are, of course, plenty of margarita recipes you could use to celebrate National Tequila Day but I have some different drink recipes that use tequila. Thanks to Sparkling ICE for sharing these recipes today.
Tequila is actually made from the blue agave plant and was first produced in the 16th century. The men who harvest the agave plants are known as jimadores and pass along their expertise from generation to generation. One other interesting fact (these were found on Wikipedia) is that the tequila worm is actually an indication of a moth infestation of the agave plants and actually produces a lower quality product. It is really something added as a marketing gimmick.
And a fun little throw back to help celebrate the day, here is PeeWee Herman doing his famous Tequila dance from his movie, PeeWee’s Big Adventure.
Honey, I’m Home Cocktail
- Strawberry Lemonade Sparkling Ice
- Touch of Raw Honey
- 2 Parts Tequila
- Cut strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, lime
- Dash of Orgeat Syrup (this is an almond-based syrup and worth having on hand)
Crush fruit with ice and add the Sparkling Ice Strawberry Lemonade, honey and Orgeat Syrup. Toss in tequila. Stir and add straw.
Blood Orange Tea Cocktail
- 1 Part Grand Marnier
- 1 Part Peach Iced Tea
- 1 Part Tequila
- Blood Orange Juice
- Blood Orange Slice
Combine all ingredients aside from Blood Orange Juice. Juice blood orange directly into glass and place slice aside for garnish.
