Right now I am still watching my twin granddaughters full-time. It is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. They are (almost) 6 months old and getting to be quite the handful as they become more and more active. I also recently received a new Droid #MotoZ from @Verizon #VZWBuzz #ad, along with several of the Moto Mods. This Droid Moto Z smartphone and the mods are so truly useful to me during the day taking care of the twins.
Baby Monitor with Arlo
We have several Arlo cameras around our home (also available at Verizon), but our Arlo Q is in the babies room where I can see and hear them while they are in their crib. I installed the Arlo app on my Moto Z and it easily lets me open the app and know what is happening with them in real time. I can be anywhere in the house or outside on the patio or even at the neighbors and be able to keep track of them and make sure they are okay. Everyone in our home (myself, Hubby, and Caitlan – twins mommy) have the app on our phones.
So Grandma is not a morning person to say the very least. But I set the alarm clock on my Moto Z so I can wake up before the babies and get our day started. I make the bottles and get everything set up for them and then go get them out of bed. These morning baby smiles are the best in the world!
It is so easy to have my work schedule, the twins schedule of appointments, Caitlan’s work schedule, and Hubby’s work schedule all within one app. On my Moto Z I use the Outlook for Android app so it easily is synchronized between my desktop, laptop, tablets and the Moto Z smartphone.
Baby Music via the JBL SoundBoost Moto Mod
The babies love, love, love music! Violet we think will be the musician in the family (just like Hubby) and Valerie just enjoys it. I have created playlists on my phone of traditional kids music, classical music, and popular music. I just snap on the JBL SoundBoost Speaker Moto Mod onto my Moto Z and the sound is awesome for the twins. This means that I can do this at home but also while we are out and about which is important with babies.
Photos All Day Long
Have I mentioned all the photos this Grandma can take all day long of the twin granddaughters? I have no problem with battery life and the camera does a great job capturing the twins both at rest and in motion. These are all automatically backed up to my cloud and also easily shared via the Moto Z via text, Instagram, or other shared cloud folders for the entire family.
Baby Foods and Feeding
The girls have just started eating cereal and pureed baby foods in the last week. I can easily look up recipes for making homemade baby food for them online via the Moto Z. Then, I can also keep track of how much and what the twins have eaten during the day via an app. I can show this to Caitlan (aka Mommy) so she knows what is happening with their diet. We even did a Facebook Live video the first feeding of cereal they had so the rest of the family could share the moment.
So the babies still take lots of naps, but it is ever changing on the actual schedule. Just like a new mom, this grandma often takes naps when they nap. I can set alarms and keep track of their naps. Grandma also gets a little time to relax while babies are taking naps and can play some games on the Moto Z or get a bit of work done.
Baby Fun and Activity
It has been quite some time since I’ve had to entertain infants. Luckily now I have the internet, blogs and Pinterest to help me find fun things that are great activities for the twins. Whenever I’m not sure what to do I just search online and I instantly come up with tons of fun things for them. There are plenty of game apps made just for babies even that I have installed on the Moto Z!
Baby “TV” with Moto Insta-Share Projector Mod
The coolest Moto Mod (so far) is the Moto Insta-Share Projector which is totally amazing! I can find any video I want via my Moto Z phone and have the projector mod attached and let the twins watch it on the wall inside, the ceiling, or even on the side of the house outside. This is really awesome since they aren’t quite sitting up on their own because I can angle it to best suit whatever position they are in at the time. I also use this as a portable crib mobile so when we are out and about and the cribs lay down in their playpen I have videos with movement and lights and soft music that I shine on the ceiling above them to help them go to sleep.
Video Chat with Mommy
Since Caitlan, the twins mommy, is now working full time I can easily do video chats with her during the day if she wants to see what the girls are up to. Not only can Mommy hear and see the girls, but they can see and hear her.
As you can see I’m already doing a ton of things with the Moto Z throughout the day just with the twins, that doesn’t include all the other stuff I do for work. One of the other available Moto Mods is the Incipio offGRID Power Pack. Just snap it onto the back of your Moto Z and you have hours and hours of more time to use your smartphone. When you do charge up your Moto Z with the cable it will also charge up this power pack. I leave this Moto Mod on most of the time, especially when I am out and about.
Edit Photos and Videos
It is super easy to use either the built in features for editing photos and apps on the Moto Z or use third party apps to do the same. Pick and chose which works best for you. The processor in the Moto Z has been able to handle all the different functions and apps I have tried when editing photos and videos of the twins.
Share, Share, Share
Yes, I love to share the photos and videos I take of the twins on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and more. These items are shared online but also stored on the Moto Z which I have automatically backed up to my cloud service (I use Microsoft’s OneDrive primarily). This makes it easy for me to still get actual prints of any of these items as well.
As you can see, the Moto Z allows me to do so many things that are useful, entertaining, helpful, and even educational for my twin granddaughters throughout the day. The addition of the Moto Mods really expand on what I can do with my smartphone compared to other smartphones I’ve used. I cannot wait to see what other MODS are coming up.
Do you use your smartphone as a parent/grandparent/caregiver to babies? If so, how do you use it?
