American Flag

Flag Day is June 14. This day commemorates the adoption of the flag which happened on June 14, 1777. However, it was not until 1916 that the current president, Woodrow Wilson, issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. Then it was not until 1949 that National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.

Most of us were taught that Betsy Ross designed the American flag, but there is no archival evidence or other recorded of verbal tradition to substantiate this story. It has been perpetuated by her descendants to this day though.

You can find great detail about our American flag, its history, traditions, and laws from the Federal Citizen Information Bureau of the US Government.

Below is a great infographic on how to fold the flag as well as how to retire an old flag that you might have.

Do you fly an American flag at your home?
