Bravo! Cucina Italiano restaurant is celebrating their 25th year with a special anniversary menu. They invited Hubby and I to come in and sample this special menu today. Thank you for the invitation to try out these limited edition items.

I always love walking into Bravo! because the atmosphere is just so nice. This makes it perfect for dining any time or for special occasions. The location I go to is at West County Mall in St. Louis, Missouri and so it is a favorite place of mine to have lunch after shopping but also a nice place for a nice dinner out with Hubby.

The Bravo! 25th Anniversary menu has a few of their classics. One thing not on the special menu is any of their salads – they do make amazing salads here though that you can still order off the regular menu.

We were greeted by the manager, Ken. Then our server, Cheyenne, brought us some fresh focaccia bread and the amazing dipping oil. I don’t eat the bread at restaurants usually but I just had to have a couple of bites of the warm focaccia dipped in the rich savory oil.

Okay – the Grilled Portobello Mushroom was not the prettiest of plates.  I actually took several pictures of this trying to get the best angle I could and edited a bit even to post here to try and make it look better. Hubby and I both were a little taken aback when they brought this to the table. I know not all food is always pretty though so we gave the dish a chance and it tastes 1000 times better than it looks. Ken, the manager, did tell me that this is supposed to be one large portobello mushroom but they were having trouble getting the right size from their vendor so they were serving two mushrooms on each plate. They are herb marinated and then grilled. Then the mushrooms are served on top of a creamy horseradish sauce – don’t worry, it is not overly spicy, but very flavorful and a nice contrast to the mushrooms. Along side the caps they serve a bit of spinach and diced tomatoes. Get a little bit of everything together and take a bite and it really is a nice contrast of flavors and textures.

Bravo Mixed Grill

The best of both worlds. Two 2 ounce beef medallions over a Romano crusted tomato with house-made hollandaise, an our herb marinated chicken breast with lemon caper butter, mashed potatoes and haricot vert. $23.99

The Bravo! Mixed Grill is one of the two entrees on the special menu. You get two 2 ounce beef medallions served on top of a Romano crusted tomato and topped with hollandaise sauce. There is also an herb marinated chicken breast served with a lemon caper butter – very reminiscent of chicken piccata. Side dishes are rich and creamy mashed potatoes and seasoned haricot vert (thin green beans). This was the dish I was most looking forward to trying and it was good, but Hubby and I both thought the beef, chicken and sauces need more seasoning. Now we do tend to use a lot of seasonings and fresh herbs and such when cooking at home so we have to take that into consideration sometimes when we dine out. The mashed potatoes were wonderful though – it is my favorite food of all time – very rich and full-bodied creamy potatoes. The haricot vert were also cooked really nicely which is a big plus because I find a lot of restaurants these days tend to either undercook or overcook green vegetables. These were just right and seasoned nicely.

Bravo Pasta Sampler Trio

I saved the best for last, the Pasta Sampler Trio. The trio consists of Mama’s Lasagna Bolognese, Cheese Ravioli Al Forna and your choice of Chicken Fra Diavolo or Shrimp Fra Diavolo. Bravo! generously provided us samples of both versions of the Fra Diavolo pastas. Honestly, both Hubby and I were both very impressed with all three of the pastas on this plate.

The lasagna is super rich and a huge portion for a trio plate. The pasta is layered with Bravo’s Marinara sauce and Alfredo sauce along with their ricotta cheese mixture and more mozzarella and parmesan cheeses. These luscious layers are baked then and served all warm and bubbly.

On the other end of the plate was the Cheese Ravioli Al Forna. This was my favorite item of the entire meal today which really surprised me because it is not something I would normally order. The ravioli is filled with an incredibly flavorful cheese mixture – the best cheese stuffing I have ever had in a pasta actually. Then it is topped with Alfredo sauce and then criss-crossed with both their pesto and Marinara sauces.

In the center of the trio is either the chicken or shrmp Fra Diavolo. I love that they use campanelle pasta for this dish which is a bit of a flared tube pasta with a fluted edge. This shape really holds the sauce perfectly. The pasta is tossed with a mildly-spicy red sauce along with the protein of choice. We liked both the shrimp and chicken versions equally.

Vanilla confetti cake layered with a chocolate cookie cream, vanilla bean gelato $3.99

We actually skipped tasting this special birthday cake dessert today because we were already so full from the rest of the meal. I’m sure it is delicious though – especially the vanilla bean gelato.

It was a very filling and satisfying meal today. We actually had plenty of leftovers to take home even. Remember, this menu is for a limited time only. Stop in Bravo! to celebrate 25 years with them soon. #CelebrateBravo
