Today is Veterans’ Day and I appreciate anyone who has joined our military. I say this as someone who hates war. Just because I hate the politics of war does not mean I do not value anyone who has been a part of our military, voluntarily or involuntarily.

What really angers me is that the military recruits people to join touting the benefits, of which there are many, but yet homelessness among veterans is a huge problem. Yes, veterans have the benefit of applying for a VA loan for housing but that does not guarantee them a home. This is just unacceptable to me. We need to make sure they have a home and get the help they need. So many of our veterans, particularly those who faced active duty in wartime, also have things like PTSD and other mental health issues as well which makes life even harder.

As a country we need to make sure that our veterans have a safe place to call home.
