Excessive and/or Idiotic Actual School Supply Lists for Back to School

Excessive and/or Idiotic Actual School Supply Lists for Back to School

It is back-to-school season and I am constantly dumbfounded and amazed at some of the required school supply lists that schools give. The elementary school lists seem to be the most problematic for me. My own son graduated from school a while back and my granddaughters are not old enough for school just yet but I still keep on these things. When I was a little kid I remember we need basics on our back-t0-school lists: pencils, crayons, notebooks, folders, scissors, glue, school box. That list alone, even for today, can be bought easily for less than $10 at most. … Continue Reading →

Back To School Facts – Infographic

The new school year starts at very different times around the country, here in the St. Louis area it seems to start sooner than many places. I’m in a suburb of St. Louis, St. Charles, and the kids head back to school this week – August 11! Wowsa! Growing up we generally started the last Monday in August in my district (not where I live now). It was always the day after the Anheuser-Busch family picnic which was one of the most fun things about summer for me. My dad, and many other family members, all worked at AB and … Continue Reading →

Back-to-School with SanDisk Memory from Best Buy

Back-to-School with SanDisk Memory from Best Buy

These days students do so much of their school work in digital formats that most parents, even in grade school, are finding memory devices on the required school supply list when the kids head back to school. While I love cloud storage for many things, it is not always an option for students as schools block access to some things. If they require a removable memory device than I highly recommend SanDisk branded products. I have personally used many SanDisk items for years and years now and they are consistently the best performing and longest lasting. There are some cheap … Continue Reading →
Missouri Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday

Missouri Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday

Here is Missouri our schools tend to start back for the new school year in mid-August. Early I know compared to many other states, but that’s the way it is. To help families save a bit of money on back-to-school shopping, Missouri has a sales tax holiday each year. This year the tax holiday runs August 7-9, 2015. Even if you don’t have a student you can still take advantage of these savings on certain items during this weekend. Since this is not part of school districts, homeschoolers can also take advantage of all of these savings! Missouri Sales Tax … Continue Reading →

National School Backpack Awareness Day and a Tablet That Can Replace a Laptop

Today is National School Backpack Awareness Day created by the American Occupational Therapy Association. This is actually an important topic as, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were more than 22,000 people treated for backpack related injuries in the US last year. That figure included 8,500 children between the ages of 5 and 18 who ended up in doctors’ offices and ERs. Back to School Memories – Throwback Thursday

Back to School Memories – Throwback Thursday

It has been a few weeks since I have done a Throwback Thursday, but today it returns with some of my back to school memories from the late 70s and early 80s. Trapper Keeper These were those big, and apparently expensive at the time, binders that were supposed to keep all of us so organized back in the day. The problem was that usually they did not fit in the desk with all of our other books and supplies. Metal Lunchbox and Thermos A must back then if you were bringing your lunch from home. I think I had a … Continue Reading →
Favorite Things for Back to School Time

Favorite Things for Back to School Time

It has been a long time since I was in traditional school and my son is done now too. Sigh. I love back to school time and this year it is so odd not having anyone going back to school in our home. Nonetheless, I am going to enjoy some of my favorite things for the back to school season myself! School Supplies I love, love, love school supplies and the office supply stores. Browsing around at Office Max is one of my favorite things to do, really. All those cool pens, pencils, markers, folders, papers, labels, clips, clasps, staples, … Continue Reading →
