Excessive and/or Idiotic Actual School Supply Lists for Back to School

Excessive and/or Idiotic Actual School Supply Lists for Back to School

It is back-to-school season and I am constantly dumbfounded and amazed at some of the required school supply lists that schools give. The elementary school lists seem to be the most problematic for me. My own son graduated from school a while back and my granddaughters are not old enough for school just yet but I still keep on these things. When I was a little kid I remember we need basics on our back-t0-school lists: pencils, crayons, notebooks, folders, scissors, glue, school box. That list alone, even for today, can be bought easily for less than $10 at most. … Continue Reading →

National Video Games Day and Infographic: How Video Games Are Changing Education

Today, September 12, is National Video Games Day! w00t! These unique holidays are fun for me. I am definitely a child who was brought up playing video games. Back then we just thought of them as fun. Today education has jumped on the gaming bandwagon though and is a great tool to help kids learn. With my own son we used a lot of various video games as part of his education. T even wrote his first persuasive essay on why video games are educational. For this week’s infographic I found a great one about how video games are changing … Continue Reading →

Knowing Your Child’s Learning Style Can Make Homework Time Easier

Knowing Your Child’s Learning Style Can Make Homework Time Easier

Even though my son is out of school I still get caught up in the back-to-school excitement this time of year. We did a combination of public school and homeschooling with T growing up, based on his needs at the time. One of the most important and helpful things I did was to learn and understand what his learning style was and use methods that focused on that style to help him with learning and remembering. Most kids will have a combination of these methods but you will be able to notice a strong tilt towards one of them. Auditory … Continue Reading →
Back-to-School with SanDisk Memory from Best Buy

Back-to-School with SanDisk Memory from Best Buy

These days students do so much of their school work in digital formats that most parents, even in grade school, are finding memory devices on the required school supply list when the kids head back to school. While I love cloud storage for many things, it is not always an option for students as schools block access to some things. If they require a removable memory device than I highly recommend SanDisk branded products. I have personally used many SanDisk items for years and years now and they are consistently the best performing and longest lasting. There are some cheap … Continue Reading →

Recently Microsoft and Parade Magazine asked me to participate on a panel about technology in education (disclosure – I was compensated for my time). Education has always been a high priority for me as a parent and technology has played a big part in my son’s education. I was honored to be a part of the panel and to be able to invite local bloggers and educators to the event which was held at the Microsoft Store in St. Louis, Missouri. My son was homeschooled for several years and also attended public school for several years. His special education needs … Continue Reading →
