Healthy Popcorn Snacking Options

Healthy Popcorn Snacking Options

Today is National Popcorn Day! Celebrate with popcorn but make it healthier. We all know popcorn can be quick and easy with microwave popcorn but it has a lot of stuff in their that is not good for us. At the movies none of us are quite sure what that butter topping they put on it is exactly either. I promise you that you can make healthy popcorn easily at home though and in your microwave or a hot air popper plus lots of healthier toppings. Popcorn has only 31 calories per cup of cooked corn and it is … Continue Reading →
Getting Back on Track

Getting Back on Track

Life is quite a wild ride. Sometimes faster that we would like it to go, sometimes moving too slowly. At times it can be smooth and easy but then those big dips and twists and turns come along. We can squeal with delight, we can shriek in fear. It’s all about perspective. Most of the time I am happy to be on the ride. I like change more than most people so those twists and turns are usually okay. Sometimes though they get to be a little much. Right now I could use a smooth ride for a while. I … Continue Reading →

Infographic: How To Carve Up Your Thanksgiving Calories

This Thursday most of us will sit down to an enormous amount of food on the table and throw caution to the wind with what we eat. To help myself, and all of you, I found this infographic which gives us an idea of the size of the portions we should be taking and approximate calories. Even if you do want to indulge more than 500-700 calories at your Thanksgiving meal you can still be more reasonable than the American average of 3,000 calories of a Thanksgiving dinner. Be careful with things like casseroles which tend to have a lot … Continue Reading →
8 Ways I Am Working on Losing Weight (most of the time)

8 Ways I Am Working on Losing Weight (most of the time)

I have been at a plateau with my weight loss for a while now. It is easy to fall into a rut with weight loss just like anything else. Still though, I celebrate the 125 pounds I have already lost proudly! Now it is time for me to just re-invest in myself and remember to put some of these strategies in place and add some new ones to start losing again. I have to share too that this time I feel different about having forgotten to do a few things lately. Before I would really beat myself up about eating … Continue Reading →
5 Tips for Using Music to Get Motivated

5 Tips for Using Music to Get Motivated

Around this time of year folks start falling off their goals to be more active. It is tough with the January blahs setting in. One thing you can do to help stave off those blahs is to use music – peppy music – to keep you moving and motivated! Over the past year I have tried a lot of different devices to track my fitness and activity. Best Buy has a ton of different activity tracking devices available. Right now I am using a Jawbone UP and loving it. While I have already lost 120 pounds, I still have quite … Continue Reading →
Winning at Weight Loss [infographic]

Winning at Weight Loss [infographic]

Since I shared yesterday about my weight loss over the past year I thought an infographic today about weight loss would be fitting. I like this one overall, although the HCG diet part I disagree with since I tried it and I just do not think it is a good plan. Also, the part about overeating – while I do agree that the types of foods we eat make a huge difference, I also know that portion control is a major problem, especially here in the USA. One of the things I have struggled with during my weight loss is … Continue Reading →
Weight Loss: 1 Year Later and 120 Pounds Less

Weight Loss: 1 Year Later and 120 Pounds Less

Today is the 1 year anniversary of my weight loss journey. The journey is not over by far, but I am very happy with where I am at today. I feel so much better – I can’t even adequately explain in words how much better I feel. This journey for me was all about getting healthier. Had I not done this I think I would have been dead within a couple of years. Last year I had Hubby take some pictures of me before all of this started. I kept that shirt and pants and had him take photos of … Continue Reading →
It is Easier to Do Than Worry About Not Doing

It is Easier to Do Than Worry About Not Doing

Sunday I went apple picking with Hubby, my cousins Jamie and Ben, and their son (who I call my nephew) Colby. It has been several years since I went apple picking. For a long time I did not go because it was easier not to. It was easier not to have to worry about how far the parking lot was from the entrance. It was easier not to have to worry how I would get up on the wagon to take me out to the orchard. It was easier not to have to worry about getting tired after picking just … Continue Reading →
Recovering From Surgery

Recovering From Surgery

My surgery yesterday went well. Thanks to all of you for the good thoughts. The doctor removed my right ovary and the large cyst and performed a D&C. No need for the full hysterectomy thank goodness! By the way, the removal of the ovary and tube has a fun name, unilateral salpingo oophorectomy! I laughed when the doctor first said the name of it. I was really surprised at how quickly I was out of the hospital after surgery. It was even faster than the two surgeries I had in January, surgery one and surgery two. Hubby had me back … Continue Reading →
Benefits of Walking [infographic]

Benefits of Walking [infographic]

Welcome to the weekend. I think my host company has things figured out and hopefully my blog won’t be down again like it was all day yesterday. So frustrating! Anyway, let’s get to our Saturday Infographic. Since I just started the walking challenge I thought I would share this Anatomy of Walking Infographic which tells you the benefits of just walking 30 minutes a day. I know I am happy to be getting all of these benefits as I attempt to meet my goal of 10,000 steps per day! How much do you walk each day? Continue Reading →
